Carta Pública al Presidente Nicolás Maduro del Antropólogo y Profesor Esteban Emilio Mosonyi

Ante las amenazas a la integridad de los pueblos yukpa y pemón, y la persecución al Profesor Universitario Lusbi Portillo, las organizaciones Homo et Natura y Provea.

Al saludarle con todo mi respeto y consideración, comienzo diciendo que me ha costado algún tiempo decidirme a escribirle esta carta, ante la complejidad de la situación que le voy a plantear y lo difícil que resulta esperar una respuesta favorable de alguien que personifica el poder máximo en un Estado, cuando uno deja de recurrir a los canales convencionales. No obstante, tomé la determinación de hacerlo, impulsado inicialmente por la persecución y acoso a que está sometido un gran luchador social, el Profesor Universitario Lusbi Portillo, amigo de larga data que ha dedicado casi treinta (30) años de su vida productiva a la defensa irrestricta de los pueblos indígenas del estado Zulia, y de modo muy especi…

Neil L. Whitehead. March 19, 1956 - March 22, 2012

Neil L. Whitehead was an anthropologist who worked on many current topics of research that include violence and the cultural order; shamanism and sorcery; vampires, zombies and the body; cultural landscapes and development; ethnopornography; captives and castaways. Areas of regional specialization include South America and the Caribbean, particularly Amazonia and the anglo/francophone Caribbean. 
Whitehead passed away peacefully surrounded by family early morning March 22nd 2012. He was born 3/19/1956 to Ken and Irene Whitehead in Harrow, London. He was raised in a quiet little house on the outskirts of London with his sister Kim. Even at an early age, he was the child you always knew was at the party.

In his youth, Neil enjoyed pursuits as diverse as playing rugby and reading Nietzsche. Though trained at the finest schools in England he was just as comfortable with the lads in the localities. Politics were never far from his mind, and he was active in the Troops Out Movemen…
