Neil L. Whitehead. March 19, 1956 - March 22, 2012

Neil L. Whitehead was an anthropologist who worked on many current topics of research that include violence and the cultural order; shamanism and sorcery; vampires, zombies and the body; cultural landscapes and development; ethnopornography; captives and castaways. Areas of regional specialization include South America and the Caribbean, particularly Amazonia and the anglo/francophone Caribbean. 
Whitehead passed away peacefully surrounded by family early morning March 22nd 2012. He was born 3/19/1956 to Ken and Irene Whitehead in Harrow, London. He was raised in a quiet little house on the outskirts of London with his sister Kim. Even at an early age, he was the child you always knew was at the party.

In his youth, Neil enjoyed pursuits as diverse as playing rugby and reading Nietzsche. Though trained at the finest schools in England he was just as comfortable with the lads in the localities. Politics were never far from his mind, and he was active in the Troops Out Movemen…

El pasado 6 de diciembre de 2011 se cumplieron 50 años del fallecimiento de Frantz Fanon, escritor y militante revolucionario que contribuyó a la teoría y praxis de las revoluciones que cambiaron, en la década de los 60’s, el destino de África y a su vez, contribuyo a la trascendencia de los estudios postcoloniales.


Frantz Fanon nació el 20 de julio de 1925, en una familia de clase media (descendiente de esclavos africanos) en la colonia francesa de la isla caribeña de Martinica. En 1943 parte de su país como voluntario para luchar en Argelia con los franceses libres en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y se quedó en Francia después de la guerra para estudiar medicina y psiquiatría con una beca, en Lyon, convirtiéndose en director del hospital psiquiátrico de Blida-Joinville (Argelia) en 1953 donde colabora estrechamente con el Frente de Liberación Nacional argelino.
